LOUIS THEROUX INTERVIEWS — JOAN COLLINS, 9PM, BBC2

‘THE ego has landed,’ quips Joan Collins as she introduces Louis to her ‘wall of shame’ — a whole room with its walls plastered with her magazine covers. It could be crass, but you don’t begrudge her this self-congratulatory statement one bit. Louis spends time with Joan (pictured) and husband Percy at their villa near St Tropez in the south of France — during a heatwave. At 90, she fans herself constantly, but seems in fine fettle, sharp as a tack and positively radiant. With a career spanning more than 70 years, Joan has plenty of great stories, and she’s in a candid mood as she discusses her days as a drama student at RADA in the 1940s through to the silver screens of Hollywood in the 1950s, the horror movies of the 1970s and the worldwide success of Dynasty in the 1980s. This covers mostly familiar ground and won’t be too revealing to anyone who has followed her, but it’s still wonderful to spend time in Joan’s charming company. If you’re looking for more from Joan, then head to BBC iPlayer for This Is Joan Collins, in which the actress herself narrates her rollercoaster life story alongside never before seen home movie footage.
