Facebook hit by new tech failure
FACEBOOK was forced to apologise to users for the second time in a week for outages that wiped billions off the social media giant’s value and triggered thousands of complaints.
Users found themselves unable to access the social media site or its photo-sharing app Instagram last Friday night for about two hours.
On Monday, Facebook, Instagram and the messaging service WhatsApp – all owned by Facebook – crashed for six hours, instantly wiping £36.7 billion off Facebook’s value and another £5.1billion off the fortune of founder Mark Zuckerberg.
The company said that the latest issue was caused by a ‘configuration change’.
Earlier in the week, a whistleblower gave damning evidence to US Congress about Facebook’s business practice.
