To be Blunt, Emily, just speak up!
THE Queen was not alone in hating mumbling actors, as revealed by Gyles Brandreth (Mail). My friends and I share this grump. The much-hyped Western TV series The English is a good — or perhaps bad — example. Many of the actors have the excuse of being American, but not British-born Emily Blunt, who babbled throughout. Directors have to take much of the blame for the lack of verbal clarity. In The English, conversations take place with a listener in shot and the speaker off camera, so you can’t even resort to lip reading. Why didn’t anyone involved in this show realise that most of the dialogue was unintelligible?
