WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE...

...between myopathy and neuropathy?

MYOPATHY is the term for any disorder characterised by muscle weakness or dysfunction. Causes include hormonal imbalance, genetic conditions, infections and inflammatory diseases. It can also occur after exposure to certain toxins and as a side effect of some medicines.

Neuropathy describes conditions related to nerve damage and dysfunction, often resulting in pain, numbness, tingling or weakness, primarily in the hands and feet.

Neuropathy can also manifest as muscle weakness, loss of reflexes and balance problems, and can affect blood pressure.

Causes include diabetes, infection, injury, autoimmune diseases, hereditary factors and certain medications.
