IBROX MIDFIELDER SEALS MOVE TO GERMAN GIANTS BAYERN

GEORGE GRANT

SCOTLAND midfielder Sam Kerr has expressed her delight at joining ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ after securing a lucrative move to German giants Bayern Munich. The Rangers star, 24, has agreed a three-year contract with the German champions and can expect to earn around £100,000 a year in Bavaria. Kerr joined Rangers from Glasgow City in 2020 and helped her new club to the title last season. She made 39 appearances, scoring eight goals, for Rangers this term as they finished third behind champions City and rivals Celtic. Kerr said: ‘It’s Bayern Munich — it’s an opportunity that I couldn’t turn down. ‘The quality of players here is amazing. I’ve played big teams before in the Champions League and think I can gain the experience here to go further. ‘I’m an energetic player who gives everything for the team. I’m hungry, I work hard and like to get stuck into every tackle. I’m that typical Scottish player.’ Kerr has been capped 14 times by Scotland, and has won five Scottish titles in the past seven years. She was Scotland’s 2022 Women’s Player of the Year. Bayern technical director Francisco De Sa Fardilha said: ‘She fits everything this club stands for.’
