PICK OF THE DAY

INSIDE THE FACTORY 9PM, BBC2

★★★★

In a nation of tea drinkers, you would expect a pottery factory such as Denby in Derbyshire to be a busy place. Sure enough, it produces nearly 160,000 pieces every week, including the bestselling Halo Heritage mug. Gregg follows the production line for the Halo mug (right, with Gregg), which starts its life as part of a massive, 100,000-tonne mound of clay. Elsewhere, historian Ruth Goodman explores the link between tea and spiritualism and looks back at the work of ceramic artist Clarice Cliff, while Cherry Healey reveals more of the secrets of clay.

PAUL O’GRADY: FOR THE LOVE OF DOGS 8PM, ITV

★★★

Paul kicks off this episode with a parade of cuties – but what about the dogs who don’t have the looks to instantly win hearts and minds? Looks can be deceiving, as soppy Spanish mastiff Lottie proves. Paul also meets a mismatched pair of Chihuahuas, and a Staffie with a fondness for tennis balls.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT 8PM, CH5

★★★

This week, the table of shame is bulging with sugar and stodgy carbs as Alex and John bravely confront their bad habits. Both of them are emotional eaters, coping with difficult feelings and boredom by reaching for comfort foods. Trisha Goddard, Dr Amir Khan and nutritionist Kate Llewellyn-waters help them to make a fresh start.

THE BAY 9PM, ITV ★★★

The day of Saif’s funeral arrives as tensions remain high on all fronts. Jenn is still struggling to keep the peace at home, while staying close to the Rahman family as they bury their son and brother. Unfortunately, the peace and reflection of the burial is soon to be shattered as the police make an arrest.
