... and another title beckons

By Riath Al-Samarrai

THE soaring rise of Ludvig Aberg has continued through three rounds at the BMW PGA Championship, where the Swedish phenomenon will take a two-stroke lead into the final loop at Wentworth.

The 23-year-old, chasing his second straight victory in only his 10th start, carded a second superb 66 to reach 16 under par at the DP World Tour’s flagship tournament.

It was deeply impressive and in keeping with an astonishing month in which he has already secured a Ryder Cup wildcard from Luke Donald.

Speaking after his round, featuring five birdies, an eagle and just a single bogey at the 13th, Aberg said: ‘I’m pretty tired so I’ll probably sleep like a baby. It’s really cool, all of these experiences. Thursday and Friday playing with Rory [McIlroy] was also new and I felt like I handled that quite well. I’m trying to do the same. Trying to approach it the same way.’

In a promising week for Donald’s team, in which all 12 made the cut, Tommy Fleetwood is only two strokes back, with Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka and Tyrrell Hatton all in the top 10. An improved McIlroy made progress with his first sub-70 round, shooting 67 to climb to six under.
