Norrie lifts title

WHILE most of the French Open field enjoyed kids’ day in Paris yesterday, Cameron Norrie was 300 miles to the south putting in serious preparation, writes Matthew Lambert at Roland Garros.

The British No1 won the Lyon Open yesterday for his fourth career title and will come into Roland Garros backed by confidence. He beat Slovakia’s Alex Molcan 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.

‘It’s my first title on clay and I couldn’t be happier with how I’ve played this week. This one feels the best so far,’ said Norrie.

The 26-year-old left-hander’s first-round match against French wildcard Manuel Guinard is part of a five-card trick of decent opening draws in Paris for the British contingent.

Heather Watson plays Elsa Jacquemot, Harriet Dart is drawn against Martina Trevisan, Emma Raducanu is up against Linda Noskova, and Dan Evans faces Francisco Cerundolo.
